One of the things we wanted to use the RuneFest backstage blog for was to talk a bit about some of the challenges and problems we face while putting the event together. Hopefully we’d then get to write something clever about how we then rose to that challenge or fixed that problem. Take the last blog for example; keeping a steady hand while waving my phone’s camera about was clearly one such challenge. It was fairly easy to fix too – I now keep my phone in my pocket instead – easy peasy.
Today’s problematic situation stems from this year’s Golden Gnome Video Award entries being up to four minutes long. That’s no catastrophe of course but it dawned on me last week that if we keep the format similar to last year’s ceremony and showed the entirety of each nominated video, we’d could be there for a very long time. That’s not a disaster in itself as I’ve seen loads of entries that I’d happily watch (and in fact have watched) several times over. I mean, who doesn’t enjoy seeing a unicorn riding a bike over a forum troll? But with the Halloween party due to kick off right after the awards, we’ve a schedule to keep to!
The answer then is to do what traditional film award ceremonies do and show sections of nominated films. But that of course throws up its own problem – what if people haven’t seen all of the film before the GGVAs?
And that’s when we thought we’d add RuneFest TV and The Gielinor Picture House to RuneFest 2011.
If you’re in one of RuneFest’s cafe’s, hanging around the market or taking time out to stuff popcorn into your face in the Picture House, you’ll be able to check out this year’s finalists in their entirety throughout the weekend. There are other visual treats we’d like to include in RuneFest TV too but we’ll come back to that in the next few days.
In the meantime, if there’s anything you’d really like to see on RuneFest TV, let us know by posting on the forums, tweeting us, posting on our facebook page or by recording a dodgy phone based video and sending us the link. After all, your camera skills can’t be any worse than mine.
